Educational Research An active learning approach to electrical engineering
In this paper I present the results of applying project based  learning approach to electrical engineering. Project Based Learning is a  teaching method that provides students with complex problem that  involves students in problem solving, decision making, investigative  skills, reflection, communication skills and use of modern technologies.  The paper was presented at the 2013 National Teaching Conference  hosted by the Southern Institute of Technology, Invercargill, New  Zealand.
In this paper I share my experience of a paper free approach to  teaching engineering students. A paper free approach offers substantial  advantages over the conventional, paper based method. It allows one to eliminate the substantial cost of colour printing. It makes it possible for  the teacher to have very flexible course materials (on the fly alteration).  The logistics of getting the assessments from the students and returning the feedback are greatly simplified. The seven year assessment record is stored electronically eliminating the need for expansive storage space. The paper free delivery method allows the use of interactive  materials, including videos and flash animations, that otherwise could  not be included in to the course notes. The approach offers students an  on-line access to the course notes, assessments, marks, feedback and  latest announcements. A paper free approach also reinforces the key  computer skills students need and prepares them for the real world  environment.  The paper was presented at the 2014 National Teaching Conference  hosted by the Southern Institute of Technology, Invercargill, New  Zealand.
